AMERICA'S LARGEST NONPARTISAN VOTER PROTECTION COALITION LAUNCHES HOTLINE IN NATIONWIDE EFFORT FOR FAIR AND SECURE ELECTIONS
Voters can call 1-866-OUR-VOTE (1-866-687-8683) August 12 through Election Day to seek LIVE help and report registration issues and voting problems
WHAT: Election Protection, the nation's largest nonpartisan voter protection coalition representing the full spectrum of American citizens, led by Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law is will launch its national 2008 general election hotline, 1-866-OUR-VOTE (1-866-687-8683). This continues an expansive effort to ensure that every eligible citizen is properly registered and that all eligible votes are cast and counted on Election Day. With thousands of legal experts and trained volunteers, Election Protection helps voters register, verifies registration status, identifies the location of a registered voters' polling place or helps secure absentee ballots, and helps ensure that eligible ballots are cast and counted.
WHY: Voting is a fundamental right. Every eligible American who wishes to vote in November should be able to do so. Too often our citizens face significant administrative and technical obstacles that threaten their ability to register and cast a secure ballot that will be counted on Election Day. Election Protection is dedicated to preserving the fairness, integrity and security of U.S. elections.
WHEN: The hotline, 1-866-OUR-VOTE, will be available August 12 through Election Day, with trained volunteers and legal experts available to provide assistance. Initial hours for live assistance are M-F 9am-5pm EST.
