Washington, D.C. - As Wisconsin voters continue to head to the polls today for the recall elections, Election Protection (EP), the nation's largest nonpartisan voter protection coalition, led by the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, is here to help throughout the day.
There have been numerous reports, including calls to the 1-866-OUR-VOTE hotline, about deceptive robocalls telling voters who signed the recall petitions or voted in the recall primary that they do not need to vote today. That information could not be further from the truth. If you have received this type of call, disregard it, call Election Protection, and head to the polls if you are an eligible voter.
Election Protection's highly trained volunteers are available to assist voters with any questions or problems, no matter how simple or complex. Voters may call 1-866-OUR-VOTE (1-866-687-8683) toll-free with any questions or issues that may arise. This English language hotline is will be staffed live until 8 p.m. CST today. Spanish-speaking voters may seek assistance through the 1-888-VE-Y-VOTA (1-888-839-8682) hotline.
Reminders for Wisconsin Voters:
- Photo ID is NOT required (please contact Election Protection if someone asks you to present a photo ID to vote)
- Know your correct polling site
Election Protection's nationwide, nonpartisan voter protection program had its largest program in the coalition's history in 2008. Over 10,000 legal volunteers fanned out across the nation to assist voters, poll workers and election officials in 25 states; the 1-866-OUR-VOTE hotline received over 240,000 calls from voters seeking assistance; and the www.866OurVote.org web site was visited by more than 283,000 people in the final six weeks leading up to the election.
